Policies not Politics please

Australian Politics!! What is Happening?
Is it because we have a sound and secure economic & fiscal environment that the focus of our elected representatives is on each other rather than Policies?
I am concerned that important and things of national interest are being lost or glossed over due to the media’s focus on political wrangling and personalities. Watching the `News` seems like an episode of Entertainment Tonight, it appears to be all about people watching and not scrutinizing legislation and policy development.

I noticed with great interest heated discussion about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has had a name change. The NDIS will now be referred to as `Disability Care Australia`. The Prime Minister – Ms Julia Gillard has used the term several times. Ms Gillard mentioned Disability Care as one of her Party’s major achievements. So, like it or not this will be the name of the Scheme.

The timing of yesterday’s political hoo haa within the Federal Labor party was despicable. Just a few hours before there was a landmark apology to people affected by forced adoption practices of previous generations.
The stupid ego seeking power grabbing professional Politicians steered the focus away from this major and important event. I was very disappointed by this. The people who had been mistreatede and disregarded by government sanctioned institutions should have been given more respectful exposure within the media. But, unfortunately their moment was hijacked by self-serving political schemers.

I do hope that by this time next year – a few months into a new Federal Government that the focus will be squarely on the important issues.
Matters concerning the governing of the nation and policies that effect people struggling everyday.
